Traditional Acupuncture in Martham, Great Yarmouth and Norwich

Welcome to Victoria's Acupuncture Clinic

Hello, I’m Victoria Pickering, a fully qualified Traditional Chinese Acupuncturist providing personalised acupuncture treatments in Martham, near Great Yarmouth, and Norwich.

I help people find relief from pain, support their fertility journey, improve women’s health, reduce stress and anxiety, and restore balance to their overall wellbeing through the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Whether you are struggling with chronic pain, migraines, hormonal imbalances, fertility concerns, pregnancy-related symptoms, digestive issues, poor sleep, or the effects of stress, every treatment is tailored specifically to your individual needs.

Many patients come to acupuncture when they feel they have exhausted other options, while others are looking for a natural and holistic approach to maintaining their health and wellbeing. My role is to listen carefully, understand the bigger picture, and provide treatment that supports your body’s natural ability to heal, regulate, and restore balance.

From my clinics in Martham and Norwich, I welcome patients from across Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, and the surrounding areas who are seeking professional, compassionate acupuncture care.

What truly matters to me is building a supportive therapeutic relationship with each patient. Treatment doesn’t stop when you leave the clinic. Alongside acupuncture, I may offer lifestyle and nutritional guidance where appropriate, helping you make practical changes that complement your treatment and support your long-term health goals. I encourage patients to keep in touch throughout their treatment journey so we can monitor progress, answer questions, and make adjustments where needed. My aim is to provide personalised, compassionate care that supports you both during and between appointments.

Pain relief (including but but limited to back pain, headaches, arthritis)

Women's health (fertility, menstrual issues, menopausal symptoms, pre and post pregnancy and more)

Stress, anxiety and sleep problems

Digestive issues and energy levels

Whether you're new to acupuncture or have questions about how it might help your specific concerns, I'm happy to explain this fascinating therapy in simple, practical terms.

FAQs

Is acupuncture painful?

Most people are surprised by how comfortable acupuncture is. The needles used are extremely fine (much thinner than those used for injections) and are inserted with minimal sensation. Many patients describe feeling a brief tingling, heaviness, or movement (of Qi), rather than pain. Most people find acupuncture deeply relaxing, and it's common for patients to fall asleep during treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions needed varies depending on your condition and how long you've had it. As a general guide, I recommend a course of six weekly treatments for most conditions. Acute issues may resolve in fewer sessions, while chronic, long-standing conditions typically require a longer course of treatment. After your initial course, we'll assess your progress and discuss whether further sessions would be beneficial, perhaps at longer intervals for maintenance.

Is acupuncture safe?

Yes, acupuncture is very safe when performed by a properly qualified practitioner. I use single-use, sterile needles that are disposed of after each treatment, and follow strict hygiene protocols. Acupuncture has very few side effects compared to many medical treatments. Occasionally, minor bruising may occur at needle sites, but this typically resolves quickly. I always take a full medical history before treatment to ensure acupuncture is appropriate for you.

What conditions can acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture can help with a remarkably wide range of conditions. Some of the most common include:

  • Pain conditions (back pain, neck pain, headaches, migraines, arthritis)
  • Women's health issues (fertility, menstrual problems, menopausal symptoms)
  • Digestive disorders (IBS, bloating, reflux)
  • Stress, anxiety, and mood disorders
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Fatigue and low energy
  • Respiratory issues (asthma, sinusitis, allergies)
  • Skin conditions

This list is not exhaustive, so please contact me to discuss your specific health concerns.

Can I receive acupuncture alongside conventional medical treatment?

Absolutely. Acupuncture works very well as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medical care. In fact, an integrated approach often provides the best outcomes. I'm happy to work in conjunction with your GP or specialist, and I encourage open communication between all healthcare providers. Always inform your doctor that you're receiving acupuncture, and let me know about any medications or treatments you're currently receiving.

How should I prepare for an acupuncture session?

For the best experience, try to:

  • Eat a light meal 1-2 hours before your appointment (avoid coming with an empty stomach or feeling overly full)
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing that can be rolled up to expose arms and legs
  • Avoid alcohol or caffeine immediately before treatment
  • Allow yourself time to relax after the session rather than rushing to your next appointment
  • Drink plenty of water after treatment to support the detoxification process
Will my health insurance cover acupuncture?

Many private health insurance policies now cover acupuncture, but coverage varies between providers. I recommend checking with your insurance company before beginning treatment. I can provide receipts with the appropriate information for your insurance claims. For those without insurance coverage, I offer a clear fee structure with no hidden costs.

How quickly will I see results?

Many people experience some improvement after their first or second acupuncture session, particularly for acute conditions or pain relief. However, lasting changes typically develop over a course of treatment. Chronic conditions that have been present for years may take longer to resolve completely. During your treatment course, you might notice subtle improvements in your overall wellbeing, energy levels, and sleep quality, alongside changes in your main symptoms. I'll regularly review your progress and adjust your treatment plan accordingly.
