Many people are still unsure about how acupuncture works and what it can treat, yet this ancient practice has now gained recognition from modern medicine for its remarkable effectiveness. Recognised by the World Health Organisation and supported by clinical research, acupuncture effectively treats a surprising range of conditions including:
Pain relief (including but but limited to back pain, headaches, arthritis)
Women's health (fertility, menstrual issues, menopausal symptoms, pre and post pregnancy and more)
Stress, anxiety and sleep problems
Digestive issues and energy levels
Whether you're new to acupuncture or have questions about how it might help your specific concerns, I'm happy to explain this fascinating therapy in simple, practical terms.
Acupuncture is an ancient healing practice that uses ultra-fine needles placed at specific points on your body, acupuncture restores the natural flow of energy (Qi), activating your body's remarkable ability to heal itself. The needles are typically painless, and most people find treatments deeply relaxing. Each treatment is tailored specifically to your needs, helping with pain relief, women's health, stress reduction, and much more.
As part of your acupuncture treatment, I often incorporate supporting therapies such as cupping, moxibustion, or red lamp therapy to enhance results and provide more comprehensive care.
My approach is always personalised; I take time to understand your unique health concerns before creating a treatment plan that combines the most effective therapies for your specific situation.

FAQs
Most people are surprised by how comfortable acupuncture is. The needles used are extremely fine (much thinner than those used for injections) and are inserted with minimal sensation. Many patients describe feeling a brief tingling, heaviness, or movement (of Qi), rather than pain. Most people find acupuncture deeply relaxing, and it's common for patients to fall asleep during treatment.
The number of sessions needed varies depending on your condition and how long you've had it. As a general guide, I recommend a course of six weekly treatments for most conditions. Acute issues may resolve in fewer sessions, while chronic, long-standing conditions typically require a longer course of treatment. After your initial course, we'll assess your progress and discuss whether further sessions would be beneficial, perhaps at longer intervals for maintenance.
Yes, acupuncture is very safe when performed by a properly qualified practitioner. I use single-use, sterile needles that are disposed of after each treatment, and follow strict hygiene protocols. Acupuncture has very few side effects compared to many medical treatments. Occasionally, minor bruising may occur at needle sites, but this typically resolves quickly. I always take a full medical history before treatment to ensure acupuncture is appropriate for you.
Acupuncture can help with a remarkably wide range of conditions. Some of the most common include:

Absolutely. Acupuncture works very well as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medical care. In fact, an integrated approach often provides the best outcomes. I'm happy to work in conjunction with your GP or specialist, and I encourage open communication between all healthcare providers. Always inform your doctor that you're receiving acupuncture, and let me know about any medications or treatments you're currently receiving.

Many private health insurance policies now cover acupuncture, but coverage varies between providers. I recommend checking with your insurance company before beginning treatment. I can provide receipts with the appropriate information for your insurance claims. For those without insurance coverage, I offer a clear fee structure with no hidden costs.
Many people experience some improvement after their first or second acupuncture session, particularly for acute conditions or pain relief. However, lasting changes typically develop over a course of treatment. Chronic conditions that have been present for years may take longer to resolve completely. During your treatment course, you might notice subtle improvements in your overall wellbeing, energy levels, and sleep quality, alongside changes in your main symptoms. I'll regularly review your progress and adjust your treatment plan accordingly.
